The Material Handling Education Foundation, Inc. (MHEFI) announces the establishment of the Harlan Gillett Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund will award $3,000 in scholarship money: $1,500 to an Industrial Distribution student at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and $1,500 to an Industrial Distribution student at Minnesota State University-Moorhead. The scholarships will be awarded for the 2013/2014 academic term.
Harlan Gillett was an instrumental member of the material handling industry, contributing many positive changes and helping to grow the industry. Harlan began his career selling forklifts and eventually became the Allied manager at a forklift company. He had a unique ability to forecast the future of the industry and was able to create business strategies that created a very successful department. After being a manager for many years, Harlan decided to return to sales and became a mentor to the new department head. His favorite product was pallet rack and he could answer any question under the sun about it.
Harlan was an extremely caring and giving person. He loved helping others and was willing to give someone the shirt off his back if needed. He was very devoted to his family, and was incredibly proud of his children. Harlan passed away in April 2009 after battling cancer.
MHEFI is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging and supporting material handling education. Established in 1976, MHEFI has provided funds, through private and corporate donations, to graduate and undergraduate students, as well as to academicians and their institutions. MHEFI offers a variety of scholarships to students pursuing an education in material handling.
