A beverage producer has optimized its production process by implementing an efficient vertical conveying solution. The upgrade improves the flow of goods between different production levels while reducing manual handling on the factory floor. By integrating the system into the existing conveyor layout, the company was able to increase efficiency without major changes to its current setup.

As the premier specialty coffee contract manufacturer in the Seattle area, Cascade Coffees business is booming. They are a leading supplier to leading coffee brands providing roasting, grinding, flavoring, and packaging coffee. Their supply chain is constantly in overdrive, so they wanted to improve the speed of their processes. They wanted an easier way to take carts full of coffee beans from the lower level up to the mezzanine. The carts are rolled over a hole in the mezzanine to fill the top of the coffee grinder.

One of our largest retail customers wanted to implement an automation system as part of their local store fulfillment strategy. As part of this new local fulfillment process, they are incorporating a fully automated system including robotic assistance, automated guided vehicles (AGV’s) and (7) Vertical Reciprocating Conveyors to expedite processes in the backroom. Because of our experience working with the customer in the past with other successful VRC installations, they contacted us to work with them on implementing VRCs into their system. (5) VRCs are part of the AGV Rack & Track System and 2 VRCs will be part of the Conveyor Loading Dock.

The Application Guidelines for Vertical Reciprocating Conveyors were thoroughly revised from the original 1991 Version which they replace. They were prepared as a result of the VRC Sub-Committee's recognition of a need to develop comprehensive safety guidelines and establish a minimum design criteria for when such are used in conjunction with ASME B20.1 - The Safety Standard for Conveyors and Related Equipment.

This Guideline was developed by the Lift Manufacturers ("LIFT"), an Industry Group of the Material Handling Institute ("MHI"); and represents suggested practices and considerations for precautionary labels on Industrial Scissors Lifts and Tilters. It is intended to provide useful information and guidance for owners, users, designers, purchasers and/or specifiers of such equipment. It is advisory only and should only be regarded as a simple tool that its intended audience may or may not choose to follow, adopt, modify, or reject. The following information does not constitute a comprehensive safety program, cannot guard against pitfalls in operating, selecting, and purchasing such a system, its repair or its replacement, and should not be relied upon as such. However, such a safety program should be developed, and an independent adviser should be consulted in doing so.
