With AI reshaping how people search for information, MHI is implementing changes to improve both search engine optimization (SEO) and AI optimization (AIO) across MHI.org. Whether someone is searching on Google or talking to a chatbot, these changes will make your member content easier to discover.
Built for Technical SEO Quality
MHI’s new architecture is built for strong technical SEO quality. Tested pages consistently include the core elements required for crawling, indexing, and machine interpretation, with a 93.7 average Lighthouse SEO score, valid structured data on tested implementations, and substantially cleaner HTML than the external third-party comparison benchmark. Performance optimization remains an area for improvement. Most notably, a layout-shift issue on some static pages, already slated for remediation. Search rankings and AI citations are measured separately through MHI's analytics data.
Cleaner HTML Than the Web's Biggest Sites
MHI’s new industry-group blog landing pages averaged four W3C HTML validation errors per tested page. For external context, an independent 2025 study of the homepages of the first 200 sites in Ahrefs’ Top 1,000 most-visited websites found a median of 55.5 errors, an average of 110.45 errors, and no completely error-free pages. On this measure, our new page structure compares favorably with the external dataset, with the new architecture's average error count approximately 93% below the study median.
How We Measure: Industry-Standard Assessment Tools
The MHI IT team is using several of the industry’s most prominent technical assessment tools, including Google PageSpeed Insights/Lighthouse, Google Rich Results Test, Schema.org Validator, and W3C Nu Validator, and supplements them with an experimental Chrome agentic-readiness assessment and a site-wide inventory with a sampled technical crawl. Together, these provide strong evidence of technical SEO and machine-readability quality; they do not measure rankings, authority, traffic or actual AI citations.
Preparing for an Agent-First Web
Since there is currently no universally accepted AIO-readiness benchmark, MHI is building against recognized search, web, and structured-data standards while adding machine-accessibility capabilities intended to support AI crawlers, open models, and utility agents that may not reliably execute modern browser JavaScript. Our newest web page architecture provides durable SEO & machine-readability meeting Google's documented technical requirements for crawling and indexing while maintaining flexibility beyond what the UX/UI-first user requires. We are following industry leaders' discussions on an agent-first future where users interact with our content primarily through chatbots and personal agents. Our system is being developed to reliably serve that growing population as well as users who prefer a UX/UI first experience.
Rollout Progress and the Road Ahead
Approximately 24% of the website, 1,464 pages, contain the new SEO-enhanced architecture. Each new feature built this year, including the revamp of 1,105 member microsites, has been brought onto the current technical standard. Our newest addition is the blog intake system, which provides advanced SEO and readability screening tools for our writers. Each new blog published today contributes more strongly to MHI.org’s overall technical SEO and machine-readability standing than it would have only a month ago. Our roadmap includes extending the intake system’s SEO technology to other content types as we migrate away from older platforms and consolidate content landing pages under the primary MHI domain. We will also continue enhancing existing pages over time, informed by user-traffic data provided by our Data Scientist Hannah Mead.
These changes will grow the visibility of your microsites, guest blogs, Industry Group blogs, and MHI’s educational content. As AIO evolves, MHI will continue to measure performance and refine our architecture.
