31) Indentation type pressure gripping lifter

A lifter that clamps the load and supports it by indenting the load in areas in contact with the lifter.

32) Industrial crane

A machine for lifting and lowering a load, and moving it horizontally.  Drives may be manual, power, or a combination of both and utilized totally in an industrial environment.

33) Industrial metal container

An industrial metal container may be made of welded wire or corrugated steel.  Some are solid, others have perforations, and some are made of wire mesh.  They may have sliding or folding gates to provide access to contents or locking lids to provide product security.  Containers may be equipped with bases, legs or other attachments to facilitate handling, or they may be nested or stacked to save space.

34) Industrial scissor lift

A raising/lowering device that is supported or stabilized by one or more pantograph leg sections.

35) Industrial Shelving

Shelving made from heavier gauge materials and designed to provide storage for heavier weight materials and packages. Often can accommodate weights of 750# or more.

36) Industrial Trucks

Wheeled vehicle used in the plant or distribution center, in the dock area (and in some cases also in the yard or on construction sites, to pick up, transport and deposit single loads. May be powered manually, by gasoline, propane or electrically.

37) Information Technology

IT.  The use of automated data processing and telecommunications tools to enable a more rapid flow of information within a supply chain.

38) Infrared

Infrared is a line of sight, wireless remote data communication technology.

39) Injection molded container

Plastic material is introduced in pellet form into a "hopper" positioned at the top of a machine and forcing it along a horizontal chamber or "barrel" of an extruder by means of the rotation of a screw.  The plastic material is heated as it moves through the barrel so when it reaches an open cavity, it is a molten mass ready to assume the configuration of the mold. The mold is closed and pressure is applied to form the container.  Once the pallet is cooled and taken from the mold, it can be further processed into secondary operations such as painting, trimming or fastening.

41) In-line diverters

Moving surface or in-line diverters are an integral part of the main conveying surface and in all but one case pop up on controlled command, coming in direct contact with the underside conveying surface of the load.

42) Institute of Caster and Wheel Manufacturers (ICWM) Industry Group

Institute of Caster and Wheel Manufacturers (ICWM) members are the Industry's leading suppliers of casters, wheels, and industrial trailer trucks, platform trucks and towline trucks. They supply caster and wheel solutions worldwide and in virtually every major manufacturing and distribution sector. The association was formed in 1933.

43) Integrated mezzanine

A mezzanine storage system built as an integral part of a building's structure. Generally put into the initial design of a building to serve a specific purpose. This type of mezzanine can utilize the building's structure for support and therein can incorporate wider span between support columns and thereby increasing the clear span of the system.

44) Integrated Systems & Controls

Integrated Systems and Controls (ISC) refers to a product section of the Material Handling Industry of America. An integrated system is a desired state that generally refers to at least one of the three possible characteristics of an installed material handling system. First, although mechanical automation of the material flow properties of a system may be evident, it is the automation of the information flow associated with what is taking place, concurrently with the physical flow, that is the most defining characteristic. Secondly, an integrated system can be characterized by an unbroken, highly coordinated material flow link between successive stages in a manufacturing or warehousing operation where continuous flow is emphasized, and delays, waiting and intermediate storage minimized. Thirdly, an integrated system characteristically interfaces two or more material handling devices in order to form the bridge between work stations or other discrete points of origin and destination within the material flow cycle, with the goal being a high degree of mechanical coordination and the precise timing of movements.
