16) Push driver

A computer-controlled arm that can push items at a right angle from a conveyor line to the desired location.

17) Walkie stacker

A power operated device controlled by an operator standing behind it, which lifts, stacks, and transports pallets.

18) Voice recognition

The ability to receive , recognize and/or understand voice commands.  Usually associated with computer directed systems utilized for process control and data collection.

19) Collision prevention

The use of sensors to detect the presence of objects and, through the use of integrated controls, prevent a collision between two objects from occurring.

20) Sensor

An electronic device designed to detect a specific phenomenon, such as the presence or absence of a physical object, and used to affect control over a designated process.

21) Laser

An acronym for light amplification by the stimulated emission of radiation.  Converts energy into laser light which in turn, can be used to control the direction and movement of material handling equipment.

22) AEM

A conveying system which consists of monorail track, track mounted electrification, individually powered vehicles, a supporting structure, a control system, lifts, switches and turntables.

23) Slip rings

An electro-mechanical device consisting of rings and sliding brushes that allow power, control or signals to pass from a stationary source to a rotating machine member.

24) Flow controller

Photo eye or similar device used to control materials discharge from upstream conveyor(s) under full line/choke conditions.

25) Automated Electrified Monorail

Automated Electrified Monorail describes a conveying system which consists of monorail track, track mounted electrification, individually powered vehicles, a supporting structure, a control system, lifts, switches and turntables as are necessary.

26) Non-contact accumulation conveyor

Non -contact accumulation on a conveyor occurs when the product is accumulated with a definite space between each accumulated load. This is accomplished by controlling the speed of the carrying surface. Most zero pressure conveyors are of the non contact type.

27) In-line diverters

Moving surface or in-line diverters are an integral part of the main conveying surface and in all but one case pop up on controlled command, coming in direct contact with the underside conveying surface of the load.

28) Reliability

The measure of how well a material handling device or system will perform in a production situation.  Measure is based upon how well the device or system performs without interruption in service due to mechanical or control failure.

29) Project management

Project management is a combination of project evaluation and scheduling with the additon of project coordination and control.  Effective project managment takes into account cash flow and present worth, decision tree analysis, critical resource analysis and critical path scheduling.

30) Hook rotator

A motorized device that powers the rotation of the hook attached to the bottom block of a hoist. The hook on a bottom block generally rotates manually but due to the weight of a load and/or the need for controlled hook movement, this hook rotation is driven by a motor and gearing arrangement.
