61) Air wire rope hoist

A pneumatically driven machinery unit, utilizing wire rope as its lifting medium, and used for the lifting and lowering of a freely suspended (unguided) load.  Often used in environments that require electric spark avoidance due to a potentially explosive atmosphere.

62) Single girder crane

An overhead traveling crane that utilizes a single bridge beam attached to the two runway/end trucks.  This bridge beam or single girder supports a lifting mechanism or hoist that "runs" on the bottom flange of the bridge beam.

63) Industrial crane

A machine for lifting and lowering a load, and moving it horizontally.  Drives may be manual, power, or a combination of both and utilized totally in an industrial environment.

64) Gear motor

A commonly used term that designates a hoist that derives its lifting and lowering power from a mechanical setup involving a gear set and pneumatic or electric motor.

65) Chain hoist

Generally, any hoist which utilizes link or roller chain as its lifting medium.  Chain hoists can be manually operated  (hand or lever), pneumatically driven, or electrically driven.

66) Electric Hoist

A suspended machinery unit that is powered by electrically driven motors and is used to lift or lower a freely suspended (unguided) load.  Generally uses chain or wire rope as its lifting medium.

67) Wire rope puller

A lever operated manual device, utilizing wire rope, used to lift, lower, or pull a load and to apply or release tension.  See Ratchet lever hoist .

68) Gantry crane

A crane similar to an overhead crane except that the bridge for carrying the trolley or trolleys (with lifting device) is rigidly supported on two or more legs running on fixed rails or other runway.

69) Jib crane

A stationary or fixed crane that utilizes a cantilevered bridge (girder) supported from a stationary vertical support.  The jib crane generally utilizes a lifting device (hoist) that is mounted on the horizontal boom (jib).

70) Automated Electrified Monorail

Automated Electrified Monorail describes a conveying system which consists of monorail track, track mounted electrification, individually powered vehicles, a supporting structure, a control system, lifts, switches and turntables as are necessary.

71) Bridge Crane

A lifting and horizontal movement device mounted on a "bridge" of one or more horizontal girders (bridge girders) which are supported at either end by trucks (end trucks).  These trucks are attached at right angles to the girders and move on runways which are attached to a building's columns, overhead trusses, frames, or via a free standing system of columns.

72) Lift Manufacturers (LMPS) Industry Group

The Lift Manufacturers Product Section (LMPS) members are the resource for industry best practices, standards, information, and equipment that lifts, rotates, tilts, and otherwise positions materials. Industry scissors lifts and tilters can also improve the working interface between people and the materials they must move to reduce injury, increase productivity, and eliminate wasted motion, while providing a significant return on investment.

73) Plastic pallet

A device used for moving and storing freight.  It is used as a base for assembling, storing, stacking, handling, and transporting goods as a unit load.  Commonly, it is about four feet square and is so constructed to facilitate the placement of a lift truck's forks between the levels of a platform so it may be moved easily.

74) Lift

The maximum vertical distance through which the load hook can travel.  The total allowable hook movement between its upper limit of travel and its lower limit of travel. The term "Lift" or "Lifts" may also refer to lift tables, scissor lifts and personnel lifts. Lift tables are ergonomic devices utilized to raise, lower or tilt work loads such as pallets and containers. Lift tables are a scissors lift device used to raise, lower, stack, convey and/or transfer material between two or more elevations and not limited to landings. Such movement enables the worker to access the load at an acceptable level so as to not exert undue physical strain while working with the item(s). A scissors lift is a raising/lowering device that is supported or stabilized by one or more pantograph leg sections. Likewise, personnel lifts are used to raise and lower humans to appropriate working heights so that they may work at a safe reaching level and will have benefit of increased movement not afforded by a conventional ladder.

75) Industrial scissor lift

A raising/lowering device that is supported or stabilized by one or more pantograph leg sections.
