61) End/side edge load capacity

The maximum amount of static load that can be applied to the edge of a platform (end or side) when the lift is in any raised position.

62) Platform ends

The edges of the lift platform that are perpendicular to the scissor legs.  The end dimension is considered the platform width.

63) Walkie stacker

A power operated device controlled by an operator standing behind it, which lifts, stacks, and transports pallets.

64) Platform truck

Industrial truck with a platform rather than forks for supporting the load: it cannot lift, load or unload.

65) Rotary rack

A rotary rack is a special variation of a horizontal carousel. In this case each vertical level or storage location is mechanically independent of the location above or beneath it. Each level in turn is driven by a separate and independent drive. Therefore, simultaneous, independent rotation of each level is possible (in any direction). Although replenishment and picking can be accomplished manually, most rotary racks incorporate automatic load inserters and extractors. See also Horizontal Carousels and/or AS/RS .

66) Tray sorter

A high speed type of sorting conveyor with sorts in the 250 cases per minute range, this type consists of a continuously moving train of independent trays that move in a straight line and recirculate in either a horizontal or vertical (over and under) closed loop. At the proper moment, controls cause the tray to tilt to either side, thereby discharging the load to the desired take away lane.

67) Overhead conveyor

A form of conveyor consisting of a continuous chain running beneath a continuous, stationary, flanged rail. Individual carriers spaced equidistant along the length of the conveyor are suspended from the chain. The chain pulls the carriers. Vertical support is derived from the fact that the carriers are also connected to a small trolley with wheels that roll cross sections, trolleys and carriers. A few common carriers include a tray, platform or simple hook. A less common alternative to the chain drive is a worm drive.

68) Platform conveyor

Another form of the conventional poternoster (See definition for Poternoster) is the platform conveyor that consists of multiple, equally spaced battens which form rigid horizontal surfaces in one direction (up and down) but behave like the front of a roll top desk on the return. Platform conveyor is an effective means of moving a continuous flow of pallets or other unit loads between levels. Another variation of the posternoster concept, which permits both vertical and horizontal movement of load, consists of freely swinging platforms suspended between two parallel chains.

69) Spreader beam

A below-the-hook lifting device that utilizes two or more hooks (attaching devices) located along a beam and the spreader beam attaches to the hoist by means of a bail.  The spreader beam is used to handle long or wide load and serves to "spread" the load over more than one lifting point. Often used in conjunction with slings.

70) C hook

A device, generally attached to the hook of a lifting device via a bail, which "grabs" a coil of materials when inserted into the ID of that coil.  Derives its name from the physical appearance of the device which resembles the letter "C".  May utilize counter- balancing weights to add stability and balance in the lifting motion.

71) Push Pull Equipment

Hydraulic fork lift truck attachment which can be used for palletless handling applications. The pushpull attachment needs to be used in combination with a slipsheets. Another attachment for palletless handling operations are special lift truck forks which contain two layers of rollers.

72) Gear motor

A commonly used term that designates a hoist that derives its lifting and lowering power from a mechanical setup involving a gear set and pneumatic or electric motor.

73) Wire rope puller

A lever operated manual device, utilizing wire rope, used to lift, lower, or pull a load and to apply or release tension.  See Ratchet lever hoist .

74) Tote

A container generally used for order-picking and shipping of items.  Usually small in size and easily moved by hand or other lifting devices and designed to be durable and reusable.

75) AEM

A conveying system which consists of monorail track, track mounted electrification, individually powered vehicles, a supporting structure, a control system, lifts, switches and turntables.
