Tokyo, July 19th, 2024 – Sumitomo Corporation and Dexterity Inc. today announced the creation of Dexterity-SC Japan, a new joint venture focused on accelerating the adoption of AI-powered intelligent robotic solutions for warehouse, supply chain, logistics, and other labor intensive industrial operations. Building on a successful distribution agreement between the two companies in 2022, the newly formed Dexterity-SC Japan will sell, market, localize, and provide financing options for AI-powered robotic solutions. These solutions will leverage cutting-edge AI technology and intelligent robotics to solve the most complicated, dynamic material handling challenges in industrial settings. “The timing has never been more urgent for companies in Japan to adopt technological solutions to address the combined impacts of labor shortages and rising demand for e-commerce,” said Norihiko Nonaka, Automotive Group CEO at Sumitomo Corporation. “Dexterity-SC Japan will help close that gap by enabling Japanese companies to leverage proven technology already used by leading parcel, 3PL, and manufacturing companies in the U.S.” Recent labor statistics in Japan estimate that there will be up to a 35% transportation capacity shortage by 2030,[1] impacting industries across the Japanese economy. Dexterity-SC Japan will offer truck loading, truck unloading, palletizing, and depalletizing products that will help better leverage existing manpower in the logistics industry. “In partnership with a trusted industry leader like Sumitomo Corporation, we are confident that Japanese companies will be able to quickly realize the benefits of market proven AI-powered robotic solutions in their logistics operations,” said Dexterity CEO, Samir Menon. Sumitomo Corporation and Dexterity previously announced a partnership to deliver 1,500 Dexterity-powered robots by 2026, including 500 truck loading robots for Japanese warehouses. Sumitomo Corporation also invested in Dexterity in 2020 through Presidio Ventures Inc., Sumitomo Corporation’s U.S.-based corporate venture capital arm. Redwood City, 30 November 2023 - Dexterity, a leading AI provider for full-task warehouse robots, today announced the launch of its Robotic Print and Apply Palletizer. Targeting operations in third-party logistics (3PL), retail, and consumer packaged goods (CPG) that require case-level labeling, Dexterity’s Robotic Print and Apply Palletizer provides a one-robot workflow to ensure Amazon Routing, SSCC, or SKU barcodes are applied to each case in a pallet before shipment. With the adoption of new Fulfillment Network Stock Keeping Unit (FNSKU) and other labeling requirements in the past year, shippers have needed to add another intensively manual process to their workflows. Labeling each case before it is shipped often requires a single team member taking a case off a pallet, adding a label, then reloading the product on a new pallet - all of which add complexity, time, and cost to an already stretched workforce. Leveraging production-fielded technology for palletizing and depalletizing mixed SKU cases, Dexterity’s Robotic Print and Apply Palletizer simplifies all these operations with a one-robot layout, reducing the cost of automating what is becoming one of the most time-consuming manual tasks in the warehouse. The system accurately identifies cases, applies labels according to customer requirements, and replicates pallet patterns. Working with a wide variety of pallet / conveyor input and out combinations, Dexterity’s Robotic Print and Apply Palletizer can be used in inbound, storage, and outbound processes. Dexterity's Robotic Print and Apply Palletizer system achieves a throughput rate of up to 300 cases per hour (CPH), which is approximately 2x faster than the equivalent manual process. Powered by Dexterity's intelligent AI software platform, the Robotic Print and Apply Palletizer is compatible with messy pallets and random SKU cases, adapting on the fly as single SKU pallets change. The software intelligence of the Robotic Print and Apply Palletizer also ensures it can easily adapt to customers existing workflows, minimizing install times and removing the need for WMS / WES integration. "We’ve seen the manual labeling workflow quickly turn into a bottleneck for our customers, compounding pallet operations challenges such as injury and turnover,” said Cary Vadenavond, Dexterity’s Chief Revenue Officer. “Dexterity designed the Robotic Print and Apply Palletizer to help customers ensure their shipments go out on time and meet labeling requirements without further burdening their existing warehouse team.” Like all previous Dexterity Palletizing and Depalletizing releases, the Robotic Print and Apply Palletizer can be deployed in as little as 48 hours. Dexterity also provides training, real-time monitoring, and issue resolution services ensuring an effortless ramp to production and beyond. Regular feature releases add greater flexibility to Dexterity products, ensuring they are used to their full potential in production. Dexterity will host an online webinar highlighting its Robotic Print and Apply Palletizer on December 14, 2023 at 1pm EDT. For more information, visit www.dexterity.ai. About Dexterity, Inc. Tokyo - September 30th, 2022. – Dexterity, the creators of full capability robot solutions, announced today a strategic partnership with the Sumitomo Corporation to deploy 1,500 Dexterity-powered robots in warehouses across Japan. Sumitomo Corporation, a Japan-based Fortune 500 multinational, signed an exclusive distributorship agreement in Japan with Dexterity to push into the Robots as a Service (RaaS) business in Japanese warehouses. Prior to signing this distribution agreement, Sumitomo invested in Dexterity in 2020 through Presidio Ventures Inc., Sumitomo’s U.S.-based corporate venture capital arm. Using Dexterity’s SaaS-based robotic intelligence platform, will help customer benefit from full task robots - standard industrial robot arms equipped with Dexterity’s intelligence software that helps them solve the toughest to automate jobs in the warehouse. Dexterity’s full-stack robotic platform provides robots machine learning-enforced capabilities to help them build multi-SKU pallets on the fly, singulate and induct messy flows of parcels and bags, as well as picking and packing easily damaged items like bread and cake. To date, Dexterity’s engineers have developed, tested, and overseen the installation of all its robots, resulting in more than 40 million goods picked in production at warehouses across the U.S. Working together with Sumitomo will expand access to full task robots in Japan and ensure these systems will fit within existing Japanese warehouse workflows. “The full task robots we have deployed have only increased demand for flexible automation that can operate in existing workflows and infrastructure,” said Dexterity CEO Samir Menon. “Partnering with Sumitomo will accelerate Dexterity’s customers in getting FTE robot systems up and running in their facilities.” In addition to working with Dexterity to deploy robots with Japanese customers, Sumitomo will also work with Dexterity to open a demo facility in Japan. Opening in October 2022, the facility will demonstrate to Japanese supply chain leaders how inbound and outbound materials at a warehouse can be connected with intelligent robots. Sumitomo plans to deploy Dexterity’s parcel singulation and induction solution with its first Japanese customer by Q1 2023. The announcement follows news that Dematic, one of the premier providers of supply chain solutions, has partnered with Dexterity to expand deployments in North America and Europe. About Dexterity Dexterity, Inc. creates full time equivalent robot solutions for logistics, warehouses, and supply chain customers. The company’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform equips robots with the vision, sense of touch, and intelligence to multi-task, handle complicated goods, fit within existing workflows, and achieve beyond human throughput in repetitive tasks. Dexterity solves labor shortages by delegating material handling work - such as sortation, palletizing and fulfillment - so employees can focus on higher-level, cognitive work.
