AGVs and AMRs: Sexy Technology with a Solid Business Case
Time: Tuesday, October 25, 2022 - 11:00 AM
Description: As the recent pandemic has weighted the need for labor reduction interactions on top of the continuous need for manufacturers and distributors to increase efficiency, AGV and AMR providers are shining a bright spotlight on the benefits that their technology can provide inside a warehouse or manufacturing space. With the ability to optimize picking, transport, and store product without the need for permanent conveying systems or interventions from labor, AGVs and AMRs are helping to overcome the challenges of both an insufficient and inefficient labor force while boosting production efficiency and safety. The latest technology being deployed is sexy in its on right, with autonomous navigation, autonomous load carrier detection, autonomous travel area monitoring, and fast-charging energy solutions. It’s a whole new world out there and with increased accuracy, increased traceability and inventory control, increased safety, improved ergonomics, and a mitigated infection risk of the Coronavirus, AGVs and AMRs are bringing a solid business case to the industry.
Speaker: Dr. Kai Beckhaus, President, MCJ Supply Chain Solutions LLC and John Hayes SALES - North America Director, Balyo

The Future of Conveyors & Sortation with the Adoption of AMR’s
Time: Tuesday, October 25, 2022 - 2:30 PM
Description: As material handling continues to move towards autonomous robots and vehicles, there is still a need to interface these solutions with conveyor systems. Automated and autonomous vehicles are capable of being mobile conveyors to bridge the gap between fixed infrastructure and the flexible needs of the market. Conveyor systems of various types can be mounted on autonomous and automated vehicles. This increases the complexity of the vehicles and the systems that they interface requiring a holistic view of the total solution. Some of the various factors that need to be considered are the conveyor interface protocols, mechanical and electrical design of the transfer points, order management software, traffic management software, navigational and travel spaces, and the pedestrian and operator areas.

The relationship and interaction between the following:
  • AMRs & AGVs
  • Fixed & Flexible Conveyors
  • Sortation Systems
Speaker: Dan Barrera, Product Management, Bosch-Rexroth, Bruce Muir, Director of Distribution Automation, SICK, and Robert Salone, Industry Segment Manager, Lenze
