Klapperich Tool, Inc. provides machine shop services for tool and equipment manufacturers. The facility is equipped with milling machines, metal lathes, surface grinders, CNC machines, wire electrical discharge machines, welding machines, and more. Klapperich Tool has used propane forklifts and a single portable jib crane for their material handling which required a need for coordination and the forklifts also caused a high concentration of propane exhaust fumes. To replace their old system, Klapperich Tool purchased a Spanco Freestanding Workstation Bridge Crane with 104-foot, six-inch long runways.
Bassett Industries is a large-scale metal fabrication company located in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Bassett Industries took on a job creating components for nuclear waste containment units. The parts are cut out of 5-¼-inch stainless-steel plates weighing up to 19,000 pounds using their water jet machine. Bassett Industries worked with a local Spanco dealer to select a Spanco A-Series Mobile Gantry Crane with a 10-ton capacity.
Extreme Performance and Off-Road is an automotive garage in Morgantown, Pennsylvania, where mechanics modify and repair cars and trucks. For removing and installing engines, they used a typical cherry-picker style engine hoist. The engine hoist was limited in usefulness, especially since it was difficult to use for larger vehicles. Spanco Headerless Workstation Bridge Cranes can be used for many applications. Extreme Performance chose to install a 1,000-pound capacity Headerless Bridge Crane in an open location in their shop.
When a large coupling manufacturer expanded its production capability, workers needed an effective material handling system to keep up with demand.
A 10,000 square foot metal fabrication facility in central Pennsylvania specializes in assembling and fabricating steel bases that are used to support printing presses in large print facilities. After being in business for two years, the company president re-evaluated the fabrication workflow, looking to lower production costs in order to stay competitive.
Placing dies into a CNC Machine can be a very cumbersome and potentially dangerous undertaking. Tight clearances on the machines add to the problem. An aerospace company had been using a forklift truck to accomplish the task. Along with pinching fingers and damage to the machine, it sometimes required three persons and a few hours to maneuver into place. Not to mention the possibility of a more serous accident.
A leading manufacturer of mobile cranes operates a 58,000 square foot manufacturing facility in southeastern Pennsylvania. Assembly of the large cranes takes place in an individual building that is outfitted with large 30 Ton overhead cranes. The large mobile cranes are assembled as they move on a conveyor system through different staging areas. Each staging area serves as a sub-assembly for a different part. Originally, a large freestanding I-beam workstation crane was considered. The solution became problematic because it interfered with the overhead crane. The solution, six, One Ton capacity wall Mounted Cantilever Jib Cranes.
A long time tractor dealer located in the Northeast sells and repairs lawn and garden equipment, commercial mowing equipment and light industrial as well as agricultural equipment. Some of the common maintenance tasks performed on the tractors required repeated heavy lifting. A job might involve installing front-loading buckets, or large calcium filled tractor tires that can weigh as much as 800lbs. The solution: a Ceiling Mounted Workstation Bridge Crane.
One of the nation’s largest food redistributors manages a 275,000 square foot facility that is used as a redistribution hub for dry, frozen and refrigerated food products. Because forklifts are a core component of the redistribution center, downtime due to maintenance can translate into a loss of profit. Installation of the SPANCO jib brought immediate value to the maintenance department. Daily battery change outs could be done more efficiently and no longer required the presence of two employees. Previously a motor change out took as long as an hour and a half could now be accomplished in 10 to 15 minutes.
Wall Mounted Jib Cranes allowed for an efficient production process void of bottlenecking. The plant production manager was dealing with the daily problem of bottlenecking on the production floor. Individual workstations were set up as part of a fabrication process were becoming inefficient as coworkers had to stop working, and wait to use large capacity overhead cranes to lift anything that exceeded on man lifting regulations.
