The Hoist Manufacturers Institute, Inc. (HMI) is an independent trade association affiliated with the Material Handling Industry. HMI’s history starts in 1917 with the Electric Hoist Manufacture’s Association which was dissolved and replaced by the Hoist Manufacturer’s Association in 1956. During this time, hoist performance standards were created. In 1971, these performance standards were published under the Hoist Manufactures Institute name and were the source material for the current ASME Hoist Performance Standards. HMI is a voluntary association which was incorporated as the Hoist Manufacturers Institute, Inc. in 1968. Member companies are the leading suppliers of hoist equipment (hand chain hoists, lever hoists, trolleys, air chain hoists, air wire rope hoists, electric chain hoists and electric wire rope hoists) in North America and continue to be the source advocating hoist safety and performance. Mission To deliver exceptional value to members and industry associates by advocating safety, and providing education and market intelligence for the hoist industry. A Demag Electric Chain Hoist combined with an Enclosed Track Jib Crane provide an excellent material handling solution. Safety and productivity in a Control Panel Manufacturing Work Cell were greatly increased as a result of this installation. The operator uses the hoist to lift and position both the assembly components and completed panels with ease. The creep speed of the two-speed hoist gives the operator positioning control whenever he needs it. Parts that were once lifted by hand are now more safely handled with the hoist and jib. Overloads are prevented by an electronically monitored slip clutch that is standard equipment in the hoist.
Waste water treatment facilities are extremely demanding on their equipment resulting in a real mess if the equipment is down for an extended period of time. The Demag KBK Internal Busbar track offered the perfect solution. The location of the loading dock made it difficult to unload the two ton pumps from the service trucks. In addition, the available space made it impossible to remove, negotiate and enter the equipment repair room with a fork truck. The Demag KBK overhead monorail extended over the service truck and in conjunction with the 2 speed Demag chain hoist made it easy to position the unit over the load and drive it to one of four repair benches.
A Demag DCS Electric Chain Hoist was selected for this application due to its step less variable speed lifting capability. The operator can easily control the lifting and lowering speed of the hoist over a wide range from 0.5 - 50 feet per minute or any speed in between for fine positioning of the load.
An automotive manufacturer needed a safe and ergonomic way to handle stamped metal panels. The large size and awkward shape of the panel presented challenges that were fully met by the Demag KBK Enclosed Track Crane System supplied. First, a Lift and Tilt Table was used to present the panel to the operator in a comfortable position and greatly reduced the amount of reaching he needed to do.
Industry: Cheese Processing Facility Application: A suspension crane system was required for operation in a cheese processing facility to handle 400 lb. cheese trays which were lowered into a brine solution. The environmental conditions meant that the equipment must be supplied with food grade paint and subject to very high humidity. Overall system height was also critical. Solution: A Demag KBK single girder crane system with raised end trucks was supplied to give the customer the largest possible headroom. The KBK track was supplied with paint that was both suitable for food handling and had effective protection against corrosion.
Demag Cranes & Components Corp. has supplied and integrated overhead crane based logistics solution to a leading manufacturer of steam turbines. Specially designed cranes for lifting of heavy turbine assemblies, parts and semi-finished components at machining centers and work station cranes are installed on three operating levels to interactively support the integrated manufacturing process.
Application: Demag 10 Ton DRPRO hoist on a Demag Crane for one of the highest crane application in the world. The equipment is used for preventive maintenance on an innovative snowmaking installation. The “Snowmaker”, supplied by the company IDE Technologies Ltd., produces 3300 cubic feet of artificial snow every day, in high quality and without any chemical additives. Solution: The hoist is equipped with 2 speed lift, low headroom under running style trolley with a top running single girder beam crane configuration. The hoist requirement was 2 speed lift, but the other travel motions are quipped with variable speed for ease when transporting materials.
Industry: High Speed Rail Line Application: The development of a new high speed rail line required precise lifting and positioning of sections during the laying of the track bed for the high speed train. Due to the exposure to the potential wide temperature ranges, humidity levels, and precipitation amounts, the units selected must be reliable in these environmental conditions. Solution: Demag supplied simultaneously controlled (4) DC-Com chain hoists for the precise lifting and positioning of the sections of the train track bed.
A manufacturer of precision measuring equipment was looking for a way to remove test weights up to 1100 lbs from their calibration machine. The weights would need to be deposited and removed underneath overhead obstructions, in close proximity to the machine. A Demag KBK Curved Track Monorail System provided the best solution to this material handling application. Unlike a Crane or Jib, the Monorail could be installed from the existing overhead structure, without the need for adding extra support columns in the work zone.
Demag provided a 10 Ton DRPRO Hoist on A Demag Crane for a metal flooring company manufactures metal floor decking products and associated metal flashings for use in the fast track construction. With a projected output of over 2,500,000 sq feet of metal decking per year, performance and reliability were deciding factors. Features and benefits provided: Safe Handling, Slow speed travel for positioning, High speed with positioning not required and Radio remote control allows the operator to always remain at a safe distance.
A parts manufacturer needed a way to quickly and carefully transfer parts up to 500 lbs. through a multi-stage dip tank sequence without suffering damage. Operator safety and ergonomics throughout this operation were top priority.
