Greer, SC—Creform Corporation, a manufacturer of unique products for the design and building of material handling structures and AGVs has developed an assembly workstation for a medical component manufacturer. The workstation is set up in a straight-line configuration to support one-piece-flow assembly practices. Due to the flexibility of the Creform system of pipe and joints, the custom configurable workstation with dimensions of 36" W x 48" L x 75" H, allows the manufacturer to optimize its floor space. This flexibility makes it easy to add or remove associates as manufacturing needs change. The station could be run with one person or two if more production is needed. The structure has heavy duty leveling feet that adjust to the floor surface. The unit features a plastic work surface as well as the pull-out sliding drawer just below the main work area, both made of HDPE plastic. Above the work surface are two types of shelving for component storage. The lower shelf is an angled shelf built to provide flow for multiple boxes, while the upper shelf includes a Creform flat pipe mounted towards to front to enable plastic bins to hang. Also, the Creform flat pipe installed allows an eight-position power strip to be mounted to the unit. The upper back section includes a steel pegboard for tool storage and provides for enhanced organization. At the top of the structure, a horizontal pipe is included to provide an LED work light. Also on the top, parallel Creform flat pipes are installed to allow a tool trolley to freely move left to right and allows a tool balancer to be connected. Mounted on the right side of the structure is a monitor to display work instructions or product specifications. A tool holder is located on the front left to hold scanners or assembly tools. Working in a collaborative effort with the user, Creform engineers developed a kitting cart that holds light weight parts that require surface protection, as well as uniquely shaped parts that need to be held in separate compartments. Storage in discrete compartments is a good way to protect parts from damage during transport and to also separate them for quick identification and easy loading/unloading. Keeping them separate also keeps them from nesting or tangling. The cart’s framework is built using Creform 28mm plastic coated steel pipe and metal joints that provide the necessary strength and durability yet allows the cart to remain flexible. The cart can be loaded from either side and is sewn together with hanging bags that are custom made for size and position. The individual bags are hung within the Creform pipe and joint framework via sewn in web loops. The bag is made of cloth covered corrugated for strength and durability. Depending on the design, compartment bag carts can accommodate various types of materials, from small parts to larger tools. This versatility makes them suitable for a wide range of applications. Greer, SC—An automotive parts manufacturer was looking to optimize its production facility and called on Creform engineers to help develop a system to transfer parts from its sub-assembly line to the main assembly line. With specific requirements from the customer, the Creform solution was to provide single direction AGV with conveyor deck that essentially acts as transfer vehicles between workstations. The AGV works two eight hour shifts per day. The single direction AGV travels in a loop with two stops. At the unload station, the powered conveyor will move the product off the powered conveyor deck to a floor-side conveyor. A manual mechanical gate drops down for load transfers with line side decking. This simple but effective mechanism ensures loads are held securely aboard the AGV during travel. The AGV is PLC controlled with HMI touch screen and provides for 50 course 128 command control, programming. Floor positioned RFID tags used for command initiation and to mark the stop positions along the course with a unique address. Aisle crossings are metered by a wireless system controller as well as other custom functions. If needed, a powered engage/disengage foot lever allows the cart to be moved easily if taken offline. Once disengaged, the unit works like a typical pushcart. The AGV (shown) is a model HA-A50060 single-direction AGV drive unit with 90° and 180° spin/turn capability. It is custom designed with a fabricated steel frame constructed for strength and durability. Creform was responsible for the design and assembly of both the AGV and system controls. Projects are turnkey with Creform…from the initial project design to the final installation, Creform will guide and support the entire project. The AGV follows a magnetic guidepath independently to ensure accurate and repeatable movement and is ideal in space restrictive areas. The magnetic tape guidepath is easily and quickly installed and routes can easily be changed or repaired. The unit can travel with speeds up to 164 fpm (50 M)/min and can carry a load capacity of up to 1320 lb. (600kg). The AGV is WIFI enabled and features an HMI touch screen for user and maintenance interface. Operator interface panels include push buttons at both front and rear of AGV. The power pack is an easy-access, 24-volt system powered by two 12V, 110AH, AGM batteries and is equipped with wireless touch charging to automatically maintain peak performance levels. The opportunity charging system minimizes the need for the user to change batteries as they are automatically charged by just pulling into the charging station positioned along the route. No human intervention is necessary. The AGV features complete equipment for compliance to safety category 3 and includes a laser obstacle scanner on the front utilizing 16 settable zones, safety circuit to cut power, audible warning device, flashing light, and E-stops. Multi-color LED lights are built into the overhead aluminum frame to indicate the various running conditions. The overhead also provides cover for the parts on the conveyor. This storage cart features two enclosed levels with latching doors on both sides for easy access. Each level has a solid horizontal surface and is enclosed with translucent plastic panels. The open-door design on each level enhances visual management while providing a secure location for the parts. The cart features a fabricated steel base including a Creform custom hitch for regular towing through the manufacturing plant behind a manned tugger, but hitches could also be used for AGV delivery. The fabricated base provides a longer, more durable life span for the cart, while a drag chain is also installed to help reduce the static buildup while the cart is moving. The cart shown, built with clamped together 28 mm ESD plastic coated steel pipe and ESD metal joints, has overall dimensions of 39" L x 28" W X 62" T and is designed to hold up to 300 lb. It features four large diameter casters with six-inch wheels for easy rolling and positioning. Two of the casters swivel. As with all Creform carts, higher capacity and custom cart sizes and configurations are possible with the Creform system of 28 mm and 42 mm plastic coated steel pipes and metal joints. The component nature of Creform parts provides added value and ensures that if there is any damage or worn components replacement parts are readily available. Creform carts come in a wide variety of pipe color options and are available with upgrade hitches for AGV delivery. Multiple colors could be used per cart or even per level for department or product identification. Accessories include hooks, label, as well as writing surfaces with clip boards to name a few.
